Does Your Car’s Seat Color Really Matter?

When you’re buying a car, does seat color really matter? Well, that depends. Does it matter to you? If so, it’s important.

At Mohawk Ford Sales of Hamilton, ON, we’ve noticed that a car’s seat color can make a big difference for some clients.

Trying to decide whether or not it makes a difference for you? Then consider these factors.

What Color Ties It All Together?

Not sure which interior color you want for your car? Then consider which color ties the whole car’s look together.

Now, the answer will be subjective. What looks best to one car shopper might not look best to another. There is no right or wrong answer. At the end of the day it’s your car, so make the decision that looks best to you.

The key is to look at the big picture. Don’t just look at the interior itself. Think about the car’s exterior color. Which interior choice works best with that color?

Darker Colors May Work Best for Families

Does either a lighter or darker color work with your car’s overall look? Then think about the pros and cons of each one.

For instance, darker seats may work best for families. If you have children, then you’ve probably cleaned up a spill inside your car. When stains appear, a darker color will hide those stains better than a beige or tan color.

If you have children, are prone to dropping things, or ever leave the house with makeup or paint on your hands, darker seats may be the best choice.

Sensitive to Heat? You Might Prefer Light Colors

Now, keep in mind that dark-colored objects absorb heat more easily than light-colored objects.

For some people, especially those who have a covered parking space at home, this factor doesn’t make a big difference. However, if you’re sensitive to heat, a lighter colored interior may be best for your car.

On the other hand, if you can’t stand the cold, go for a darker color. The extra heat might make you a little more comfortable as you drive.

Light May be Best for Your Outdoor Parking Space

If your car spends more time in the sun than in the shade, consider a lighter interior for your car. Not only will it absorb less heat than a darker interior, but it’ll also experience less fading.

Dark seating, especially black seating, can fade if it spends too much time in the sun. Worse, it doesn’t often fade evenly. Since the sun can hit a car’s interior at different angles, the seats can fade in splotches. If you have a partially-shaded outdoor parking space, you may end up with striped seats.

A Dark Interior Provides a Luxurious Look

At Mohawk Ford Sales, the cars in our inventory have a wide range of interior colors. We’ve found that for some clients, a darker interior offers the suggestion of luxury.

These days, it’s tough to find a luxury car with a tan or beige interior. That’s not to say that a luxury car can’t have lighter seat colors. However, some people do experience a psychological connection between black seating and high-end cars.

This is especially true if you can keep your interior dark. An indoor parking space is a privilege, which may be a part of this psychological connection.

Material over Color

While the color of your seats can make a difference in your car, what really matters is the material. You have two options for the material of your car seats: leather and cloth.

Both options have their pros and cons, but at Mohawk Ford Sales, we generally recommend leather. Leather is more durable, more comfortable, and more stain-resistant than cloth.

Leather also provides a better resale value.

It Boils Down to Personal Preference

You can go over pros and cons, but in the end, it all boils down to your preferences. Take another look at the factors above and decide which factors matter the most to you.

If none of these factors matter more than the others, then go with your gut. You may not be able to explain why you like one color more than another, but the important thing is that you enjoy your driving experience.
