2020 Ford Edge vs. 2020 Chevy Equinox
Both the Edge and the Equinox are available in a variety of trim levels. The Ford comes in SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST grades. Three versions of the Equinox are offered: LS, LT, and Premier.
Design
Outside, the Edge and the Equinox both boast modern body lines, stylish wheel options and available LED headlights. The Ford is available in an ultra-sporty ST trim level, which comes with a performance-tuned suspension, gloss-black grille, and prominent badges. Meanwhile, the Equinox is available as either a blacked-out Midnight Edition or performance-oriented Redline Edition.
Five Passenger seating comes standard on both the Edge and Equinox. Ford owners, however, can stretch their legs out more, thanks to the 1,081 mm of front row legroom. By comparison, the Chevy offers 1,038 mm of front row legroom. Plus, the Edge has 2,079L of cargo volume behind the front row, compared to the 1,809L found in the Equinox.
The Edge also offers thoughtful touches throughout the cabin, such as metal painted accents and a rotary shift dial. In addition, the Ford comes with standard perforated leather-trimmed bucket seats. The Equinox, on the other hand, comes with standard cloth seating.
Performance
Two engine options are available in the Chevy: a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder (170 hp, 203 lb.-ft.) and a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder (252 hp, 260 lb.-ft.). A six-speed automatic transmission backs the smaller engine and 9-speed automatic pairs with the larger engine. Across the board, front-wheel-drive comes standard and all-wheel-drive is available.
Although the Equinox offers impressive powertrain options, it doesn’t offer the available muscle of the Edge. The base engine in the Ford SUV is an EcoBoost 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder (250 hp, 275 lb.-ft.). Buyers looking for even more power can step up to the EcoBoost 2.7L turbocharged V6 (335 hp, 380 lb.-ft.) found in the high-performance ST model.
An advanced eight-speed automatic transmission backs both Ford engine options. Front-wheel-drive comes standard (all-wheel-drive is available) on all models except the ST, which comes with standard all-wheel-drive.
Key standard features
The Ford Edge comes with a generous helping of standard features. Even the entry-level SE comes with high-end equipment, including onboard Wi-Fi and a rearview camera. An 8-inch SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system – with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – also comes standard.
