Why Are Test Drives Important?

You’ve done all your homework. You’ve researched. You’ve talked to your friends and family. You have pored over websites and blog posts. You know the vehicle you want to purchase. You’re ready. All you need to do now is schedule a test drive.

Our professional sales team at Mohawk Ford knows that the best way for you to be sure that your dream vehicle is a reality is to get behind the wheel. Don’t skip this critical last step to ensure that dream vehicle is all that you expect it to be.

Kick the Tires

The most important thing to remember when you come to Mohawk Ford is that your time is our time. We aren’t in any hurry. We want you to have all the time you need to ask questions, take a test drive (or three), explore all the features, and ponder your purchase.

We won’t rush you or follow you around. We won’t hover. We are at your disposal and want to answer all your questions in your timeframe. So, take the time you need.

The first thing we encourage customers to do is sit behind the wheel for a little bit. Don’t crank the engine. Don’t turn on the radio. Just sit and pay close attention to how the vehicle feels.

  • Are you comfortable?
  • Does the lumbar support provide support?
  • Do you need to adjust the seating to reach the accelerator more conveniently?
  • Is the console comfortable?
  • Are the turn indicator and windshield wiper lever in easy-to-reach places?

Think through these questions and make adjustments if you need to. Then, go ahead and sit in the passenger’s seat and in the back seat, too.

  • Is there ample legroom?
  • Can children see out the window?
  • Is the LATCH system easily accessible?
  • How far does the sunroof retract?

Is the vehicle what you hoped? Do you like things so far? Take your time. We’re working on your schedule!

Let’s GO!

We aren’t going to drive around in the parking lot! We want your test drive to allow you the opportunity to see how the vehicle feels doing all the things you’d typically do in it.

If you plan to use this vehicle primarily for highway commuting, then let’s get out on the open road! Maybe you will be using the car for in-town travel, like errand running, grocery shopping, and soccer practices. If that’s the case, we need to drive into town for stop-and-go opportunities.

You should experiment with the features, too. It may sound silly, but we think you should take all the time you need to ring all the bells and blow all the whistles. We may even be able to show you some features that you didn’t know were available!

  • Experiment with the standard Ford Co-Pilot360 safety features
  • How does the liftgate work?
  • Are there storage compartments throughout the vehicle?
  • How does the Head-Up Display work in the sunshine?
  • Where would you hang the dry cleaning?
  • Does the steering wheel warm like the brochure says?
  • Are the cupholders convenient?
  • On which side of the vehicle is the gas tank?

Bumper-to-Bumper

Don’t forget to take some time to look around the outside of the car. Look for any scratches or tiny dings. Check all the carpets. Look under the floor mats.

Pop the hood. Is the battery easy to replace if you had to? Where is the oil cap? Is the wiper fluid easy to refill on your own? Where are the spare tire and car jack stored?

This may be the first opportunity you’ve had to talk with a professional salesperson about your vehicle. Our team members know about our brand! Ask all the questions you’d like. If we are unsure about the answer, we will find out.

Questions Answered

It’s certainly not a requirement, but for some, it’s helpful to write down all the questions you’ve had run through your mind before you come to the dealership. You will undoubtedly have more questions to ask as you begin to work your way through the vehicle. That’s ok, too. It’s what we do!

It may be a good idea to think about frustrations you’ve had in past car-buying experiences.

  • Did you have a hard time scheduling maintenance appointments?
  • Did you feel like the finance team gave you the run-around?
  • Were you often unsure about your warranties and coverages?
  • Do you understand how to sign up for FordPass and 24/7 Roadside Assistance?

The test drive presents the perfect opportunity to get a good idea about how our dealership works and gauge the kind of service you can continue to expect when you drive off our lot. You won’t be disappointed.

Confidence and Trust

At Mohawk Ford, we understand that purchasing a vehicle is a big deal. We want you to take a test drive, explore features, and ask all your questions. We work on your timeline and are available to you even after you’ve gone home.

If you’ve been looking and dreaming about a new vehicle, but you’re not 100% sure you’re ready to purchase, now is the perfect time to kick the tires, take a test drive, and see what you think.

We know you will be so glad you did!
